Keynote Speaker:

Albert-László Barabási (Northeastern University, USA)

Albert-László Barabási is a Distinguished University Professor at Northeastern University, where he directs the Center for Complex Network Research, and holds appointments in the Departments of Physics, Computer Science and Biology, as well as in the Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women Hospital, and is a member of the Center for Cancer Systems Biology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Barabási recently released on April 29th his newest book “Bursts: The Hidden Pattern Behind Everything We Do” (Dutton, 2010) available in five languages. He has also authored “Linked: The New Science of Networks” (Perseus, 2002), currently available in eleven languages, is co-author of “Fractal Concepts in Surface Growth” (Cambridge, 1995), and the co-editor of “The Structure and Dynamics of Networks” (Princeton, 2005). His work lead to the discovery of scale-free networks in 1999, and proposed the Barabasi-Albert model to explain their widespread emergence in natural, technological and social systems, from the cellular telephone to the WWW or online communities. His work on complex networks have been widely featured in the media, including the cover of Nature, Science News and many other journals, and written about in Science, Science News, New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, American Scientist, Discover, Business Week, Die Zeit, El Pais, Le Monde, London’s Daily Telegraph, National Geographic, The Chronicle of Higher Education, New Scientist, and La Republica, among others. He has been interviewed by BBC Radio, National Public Radio, CBS and ABC News, CNN, NBC, and many other media outlets.

Hamid Benbrahim (Vice President, Applied Complexity Research, Fidelity Investments, USA)

Hamid Benbrahim is vice president, Applied Complexity Research at Fidelity Investments. Prior to joining Fidelity Dr. Benbrahim most recently advised Private Equity firms on mobile technology and digital media. He began his technology and telecommunications career with GTE Laboratories (now Verizon) where he assumed a number of research and operations roles, including Director of Advanced Technology group managing the mobile yellow pages business unit and leading technology architecture initiatives, Director of Project Management for Verizon International where he led projects in restructuring of billing and customer service operations, and consolidating voice, data, and mobile network operations centers in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Argentina.
Dr. Benbrahim holds a Ph.D. in robotics and machine learning from the University of New Hampshire, and an MBA in finance from the Columbia Business School.

Alberto Calero (Director CEO Office, France Telecom Spain)

Alberto Calero is a member of France Telecom Spain Management Committee, and is the Director of the CEO Office. Calero joined Orange, (Amena) in 2001 as the New Services Director, reporting to the CEO and being member of Amena and Auna Extended Management Committee. He was the Director of Innovation, Contents and Convergent Services, in which he had the responsibility of the development of convergent services, contents alliances and innovation. He has now the responsibility of the anticipation on strategic growth areas for Orange Spain like Energy, Health, Education, Networks… He was awarded with the Fulbright Hays Scholarship, the National Scholarship for Research, the Angel Barbero Schollarship of the Politechnic University of Madrid, and he collaborated with the IBM research in Spain Digital Image Processing Lab. During his professional career has been awarded with several industry prices and honors. (IEEE research, IDC best Marketing Mgr…) He is member of the advisory committee of the Saint Louis University, Missouri, and has collaborated with Universities, (MIT, Harvard, North Eastern, Colorado Denver, Deusto, Bilbao), and institutions (Spanish air Force, IEEE, World Economic Forum…) He was former referee of the IEEE Computer Magazine.

Harald Katzmair (Founder & Director, FAS Research)

Over the last 12 years Harald has developed a unique and proprietary set of tools and technologies to empower decision makers in the areas of Public Affairs, Key Account Management, Stakeholder Relations, HR and Organizational Development to navigate through the increasing complexities of our connected world. In hundreds of international engagements Harald’s visionary understanding of networks has helped Fortune 500 clients (HP, Xerox, Kodak, Allianz, Pfizer, Abbott , UPS etc.) as well as leading Non-Profits (Packard Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, GTZ etc.) to reach their goals. Harald and his international team understand the patterns of interrelations and influence and turns market and organizational data into network maps and maps into strategy. Harald holds a degree in Social Science and Philosophy (University of Vienna), is lecturer, visiting scholar, and invited guest speaker at various universities (Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration etc.).

Valdis Krebs (Founder, and Chief Scientist, Orgnet)

Valdis Krebs is an internationally known expert in network analysis and data visualization. He finds and maps hidden patterns in data, information flows and business/political relationships. His clients include businesses, non-profits and foundations, local, state and national governments. He is an invited speaker at major conferences and universities around the world. He has been interviewed on radio and TV and his work has been featured in major publications. He has over 500 social and organizational network analysis projects (SNA/ONA) under his belt. His client list includes IBM, Lockheed-Martin, Kaiser Permanente, Centers for Disease Control, CNBC and various universities and government offices. His work has been featured in several major newspapers and magazines, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, BusinessWeek and Fast Company.
